Need to Be in the Here & Now

I regret not signing up for City Lights this Spring Break.

I regret not finishing this philosophy paper before break.

I keep thinking about what working in New York is going to be like in the summer and even maybe after graduation.

I keep thinking about what floor programming I should have as an RA next year.

I... need to stop living in the past and the future. I need to live in the present, in the here and now.

  1. It's ok Joy. Try not to worry too much about what might be or what could have been. Just makes the best of what's going on in the present. Also, with reference to your floor programming, don't worry about trying to make everything perfect; an honest effort is always appreciated no matter what the outcome is. :) Especially since we'll probably be on your floor :P

  2. i feel ya... i love to plan for the future, especially at inopportune times (i.e. right before a midterm). usually it's too much of a figment of my imagination to be realistic, or too far in the future to be relevant. and yeah, i like thinking about my regrets and hitting myself over the head with them. these are things i'm trying to work on as well.

  3. ho ho do i have a quote for you.

"There are but two real times in life: now, and the moment of our death. The past is a figment of our memory; the future is a figment of our imagination. The Devil presents these to us as reality to rob us of NOW."

Seems to be an old catholic proverb or whatever they call it...terminology sigh...

And you know just as well as i do that i regret not doing City Lights. But do not focus on the regrets you have, do not focus on the decisions you have made. You made them already and cannot change them, and so continue moving forwards knowing 100% that God has prepared a path just for you.

And i really really like your Mii idea for your floor plan. Can i help with that?

  4. Regrets detract from what could be happening now, which will, in turn, lead to more regrets. Break the cycle!

One of my favorite quotes was: "The only way to live life, is to live it assuming you die within the next 5 years." Definitely no regrets then. :)
